'90年代以降のアイリッシュアーティストなんて他にTHE CORRSぐらいしか知らないミーハーな私が唯一記憶にあるクランベリーズの曲がコレです。普遍的にポップで耳に残るほどメロディアスならジャンル国籍不問で何でもアリですから。現実と非現実、高揚とデリカシーが混在するような音像も含めて奇跡的な曲と評されるのもわかりますよ。1992年9月リリースの1stシングルで英米では'94年にかけてじわじわ売れたそうです。その'94年に王菲(FAYE WONG)が自身出演映画の挿入歌"夢中人"としてカバーしていますのでそちらも是非。

かなりソウルフルですがクイーンらしい盛り上がり所やブライアンのレッド・スペシャルも炸裂してます。
Hot Spaceに収録されていればアルバムの評価ももう少し高かったと思うんですけどね...

ジミ・ジェイミソンの歌声とこの歌メロの切なさが絶妙
ロックなリズムプレイと華美になりすぎない煌めき

広く浅くヒット曲追っかけミーハーな私はリアタイでこの曲しか知りませんでした。1984年6月リリースの4thシングルでUSチャート7位まで上がったバンド最大のヒット曲となります。米国版高田みづえみたいなルックスで同じNYのパンクロッカーと紛らわしい名前のお姐さんがパワフルに歌い上げるといった印象のポップロック。NICK GILDERとHOLLY KNIGHTの共作というのは珍しいパターンでしょうか。当時はサビメロが変?に感じたものですが普通にアップダウンなだけですね。気分高揚のBGMとしてどうぞ。

1982年9月に1stシングルとしてリリース、同年5曲入りEPのOPに収録。それから30余年後の2014年表題フルアルバムの再発盤にEPの5曲丸ごとボートラで収録。このバンドぶっちゃけリアルタイムでは"The Warrior"以外完全にスルー、最近ようやく辿り着き"デビュー曲からいきなりサヨナラとは"などと思いつつ聴いてみたら、バンドのG・ZACHARY SMITHによる楽曲はタイトルとは裏腹に私好みのメジャーコードでテンポ良く軽快そのもの。知らなったことで人生の何%かは損した気分ですよ。

1989年、全米12位とさり気にSTARSHIP時代では5指に入るヒットを記録した、表題3rdアルバムから2つ目、STARSHIP名義通算10thシングル。前作収録の6thシングル"It's Not Over～"に対応したようなタイトルですね。変化に富んだメロディ特にちょっぴり哀愁を帯びたサビメロに、デジタル感控え目なゆったりリズムの成熟したサウンド。いやもうそれだけで"充分"じゃないですか。

アイドル的人気が爆発した80年代からキャリアを重ねて幾年月。’12年に目出度くデビュー40周年の節目を迎えたオーストラリア出身のシンガー／ソングライター、リック・スプリングフィールドがアニバーサリー・イヤーを祝うべく発表した18thアルバム。
リックというと、エレクトロなKeyを生かしたニューウェーブ風ロック・サウンドの印象が強いですが、前作『VENUS IN OVERDRIVE』（’10年）がアメリカにおいて久々にヒット作となり、ノリにノッている状態で制作されたと思ぼしき本作においては、（ご本人の「ギター・オリエンテッドな作風を目指した」との発言が裏付ける通り）、Key類は控えめに、よりハード・ロッキンなエッジを効かせたサウンドを披露。それでいてメロディには胸を打つフックが絶妙に盛り込まれており、単に大味かつ攻撃的な作風に陥っていない辺りにはベテランの技前がキラリと光ります。

ヘロヘロ脱力モードについていけず、何年かに一度挑戦しては敗退していたのですが、よーやく楽しめるようになりました。
この揺れ揺れサウンドが３周ぐらいまわって最新の音楽に聴こえなくもありません。ってーゆーか、個人的になんか今頃フレッシュに響きます。
んー、快感。
